Akshay Kumar can't believe he has won Padma Shri. Akshay Kumar showed the world his honest and generous side when he refused to take the Star Screen Awards trophy because he thought Aamir Khan deserved it. Just when he let go a small award like that he got a bigger honor - the Padma Shri.The Khiladi, Akshay Kumar came to Bollywood back in 1991 and delivered his first hit film “Khiladi“. Since then he has acted in a variety of Bollywood films from action to comedy. He almost went to hibernation with the fleet of flop films in the period of 1999-2006. But 2007 marked his resurrection with three consecutive commercially hit films. Since then he has been referred to as the King of Bollywood. His income sky rocketed putting him in the list of country’s highest tax-payers.akki
Well, if income has been the criteria, then certainly Akshay Kumar deserves to be a Padma awardee. But I almost certainly believe that is not the case. No matter how the media paints the picture, Akshay’s earning aren’t due his streak of films, but his distribution wing. According to the buzz, Akshay distributes his own films in northen region of India (where he hails from) and offshore. He also does stage-shows (including at the big-bang weddings). Do we want the Padma awardee to be a Nautanki or a mere Barati? The question is again, what has been the criteria in Akshay’s case? Is government caring enough to disclose the details?
“Every award is big. I believe you get whatever you deserve. I did not believe it initially. When my friends SMSed me I thought they were pulling a fast one on me, but soon I saw it on the channels. I want to thank my audiences and the industry who gave me so much time to work. Today I got this honour thanks to Bollywood’s love and support,” says an elated Akshay Kumar.
